“A Top End whip maker reckons he has created a new type of whip that’s easier to crack.
Mick Denigan has been making kangaroo hide whips since 1988 and his latest innovation fits a counter balance onto the end of a whip.”

“The 2013 Reel Women Barra Classic was on held 17 & 18 May at Dundee Beach. 200 ladies travelled from right across Australia and Indonesia to compete in the two day tournament. The fishing conditions were a little harder this year; however the ladies still managed to land 126 barramundi which was an awesome effort. The 2 day tournament culminated with live music, whip cracking with Micks Whips, line dancing, bucking bulls, photo booths and plenty of laughing, dancing, fun and good times.”
“Is it possible to write about the world’s largest stockwhip without using phrases like “get cracking” and “whip around”? Let’s see. (Damn, too late already!)
We’re about 60kms south of Darwin at Mick’s Whips homestead, a 20-acre whip-themed property where you can see the most spectacular whip-cracking demonstrations in the country. Professional whip maker Mick Denigan has been teaching ordinary folk how to crack like experts for years. He also exports thousands of hand-made whips to people including Bill Gates, actor Keeanu Reeves and former US president, George Bush. He also provided all the whips in Baz Luhrmann’s 2008 movie, Australia, placing both Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman at serious risk of being upstaged by their props.”

“Running on a Thursday and Sunday evening the Mindil Sunset Market is a visitation highlight of Darwin. We decided to drop in on the midweek Thursday market and it was a great evening out. Make sure you take an empty stomach as I have never seen so many food vans in the same place before! A big thanks to Mick from Micks Whips who helped me achieve #164 on my bucket list “Learn to crack a bull whip” he put on a great display of skill promoting his stall with bull whip tricks.”

“Here are seven great ways to help you discover the real Darwin. Crack! A five-inch piece of plaited twine breaks the sound barrier with a sonic boom. Attached to the end of the twine is six feet of plaited kangaroo leather fixed to a wooden handle.
On the end of the handle is Mick Denigan, master leather craftsman and Australia’s whip-crack extraordinaire.
A huge Indiana Jones fan since childhood, I’m drawn to the whip like the proverbial moth to a flame. Left hand on hip, right hand swirling overhead, Mick’s expert voice instructs off to my side, “that’s it, keep it moving and when the handle gets behind your left ear, snap it across the front of your body”.
People are watching, my arm begins to tire and the whip is losing momentum. In place of a triumphant crack, however, is the collective wince from the crowd as I manage only to wrap the leather plait around my own head.”

“MICK DENIGAN likes his whips, and so do presidents, princes and multinational internet moguls. The US President, George Bush, has a Denigan stockwhip, as does Prince Philip, and Bill Gates. Helen Coonan got one when she became Senate government whip.”
